Defending Our Democracy: Stateless Law
In memory of the remarkable struggle at the Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Shaurya Diwas (Valour Day) is celebrated each year on the 9th of April. In 1965, a handful of CRPF troops fought off a full-blown offensive from the Pakistani army. As a lawyer in Kota, I consider this day a testimony that the greatest acts of democracy are performed on the frontline of the nation’s borders, where our brave men and women, out of a dedication to our democracy, enforce the laws of the land.
To the internal security personnel, determination and the will to fight are the most important qualities. In the profession I belong to, we engage in many of these 'wars' and in our case, the law and order. Ultimately, these qualities of the security forces remind us of the value of standing our ground for the right, and for justice.
This is what we call 'service above self.'
To the 'Men in Khaki' from the Kanker forests to the thawing borders in Kashmir, we are at your service.
This Shaurya Diwas, may we all pledge to honour the men and women of the Internal Security by obeying the laws of the land, and in doing so, we will give them a measure of the respect they deserve for the selfless acts they perform each day.
